Fais Do Do
12x12 acrylic on canvas by artist Janan Riley
From the World Wide Web: Fais Do Do seems to translate roughly to “put to sleep,” it combines French “Fais dormir” shortens jr ….and there’s a correlation to the dance “do si do.” Starting out as a Cajun lullaby to get the kids to bed to be able to go dance some more. Now we know it as a polite asking from the fiddle to get your behind on the dance floor, kids are also invited. This is my happy place at Jazzfest, take me here and to the Louisiana heritage demonstrations, I am in my own heaven.
